Wimbledon Championships Artist 2013

I was delighted to be invited to be the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club Championships Artist 2013.

My commission was to engrave a large bowl, with tennis players playing in costumes from 1889 to present day. This shows dramatically how the costumes have changed over the years.

Although the players are the undisputed ‘stars of the match’ I fully realised the importance of the other people on court during a match.  So, I included in the design an umpire, ball boy & girl and a linesman.

The Wimbledon Championships 2013 text is undulating in design to give the suggestion of a waving flag, with the text passing through the racquet as though a ball had hit the racquet.

The bowl was blown by Potter Morgan Glass - Cornwall
